Class 38 (v) [Also in Groups XXXVIII and XXXIX] In a step-by-step switch for a party line system or a single frequency radio system employing multidigit selective calling, a selector arm I, normally held in the home position by a helical spring, is driven by an electromagnet 4 through a ratchet drive 6, 7 and an electromagnetic clutch comprising a disc 10 and a pot magnet 9. When the disc 10 is attracted by the energising coil 8 responding to a receive relay, the contact arm is brought into contact with the selector bank and the switch is subsequently stepped.
