Abstract
Dry preparations of fat-soluble vitamins for fortifying animal feeds comprise a multiplicity of small spheroidal particles each of which is a mixture of a wax-like material of melting point at least 45 DEG C, e.g. a hydrogenated coconut, cottonseed, peanut, soyabean or fish oil, stearic acid, petroleum wax, carnauba, candelilla, esparto or ouricury wax, the fat-soluble vitamin-containing material, e.g. a fish liver oil, a vitamin A concentrate, irradiated ergosterol or 7-dehydrocholesterol, carotene, a vitamin D3 concentrate, and an edible surface-active material, e.g. a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmitate having 5-90 ethylene oxide units in the molecule, an ester of castor oil fatty acids and a polyethylene glycol, soyabean lecithin, gum acacia or tragacanth. The wax-like material is preferably at least 30 per cent by weight of the product, and the surface-active material preferably at least 0.5 per cent. The particles may contain an edible anti-oxidant effective upon fat-soluble vitamins, e.g. butylated hydroxy anisole, propyl gallate, gallic acid, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, vitamin E, mixed tocopherols, in the proportion of at least 0.05 per cent, and may contain a vegetable flour, e.g. wheat germ meal, soyabean meal, maize germ meal, alfalfa leaf meal, linseed meal, maize meal, wheat bran, oatmeal, peanut meal, bolted rice polish, wheat flour, in the proportion of 1-50 per cent. The particles may be made by forcing a mixture of the ingredients in molten condition through perforations in the walls of a rapidly rotating vessel, or from a spraying device, into a cool chamber. Specifications 531,225, 553,328, [both in Group VI], 573,937, 590,090, 681,931 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,633,711, 1,764,085, 2,195,595, 2,206,113, 2,345,576, 2,396,680, 2,396,681, 2,426,762 and 2,433,593 are referred to.ALSO:I Dry preparations of fat-soluble vitamins com prise a multiplicity of small spheroidal particles each of which is a mixture of a wax-like material of melting point at least 45 DEG C., e.g. a hydro genated coconut, cottonseed, peanut, soyabean or fish oil, stearic acid, a petroleum wax, car nauba, candelilla, esparto or ouricury wax, the fat-soluble vitamin-containing material, e.g. a fish liver oil, a vitamin A concentrate, irradi ated ergosterol or 7-dehydrocholesterol, caro tene, a vitamin D3 concentrate, and an edible surface-active material, e.g. a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmitate having 5-90 ethylene oxide units in the molecule, an ester of castor oil fatty acids and a polyethylene glycol, soya bean lecithin, gum acacia or tragacanth.
