Class 110(i) [Also in Group XXXV] In a pump for water pipe line installations in which the pump discharge casing is provided with a non-return valve adapted to close during the running of the pump and to open when the pump is at rest, the driving motor is mounted on the inlet casing of the pump at an angle of substantially 45 degrees to the pipe line. The pump casing is in two parts A, A<SP>1</SP> bolted together and each flanged for bolting into the pipe line of a hot water circulation system. The discharge volute a<SP>7</SP> is arranged at 45 degrees to the pipe line. By a relative rotation through 180 degrees from the position shown, the parts A, A<SP>1</SP> can be bolted together with the inlet flange at 90 degrees to the outlet flange. When the pump is running, a disc valve B pivoted at b is retained in the closed position shown by the difference between the pressures on its two sides. When the pump is stationary, the valve drops into the position shown dotted, to permit passage of water through the impeller C. An air release cock a<SP>4</SP> facilitates priming. An oil reservoir C<SP>2</SP>, supplied by a filler c<SP>3</SP>, surrounds the impeller shaft and communicates through passages c<SP>2</SP> with bearings c<SP>1</SP>. A flexible non-metallic coupling d prevents transmission of noise from the driving motor. According to the Provisional Specification, the valve may be supported at its centre by a cranked arm the free end of which carries a tube to receive the hinge pin.
