Abstract
680,817. Composite lickstones. BRUNNINGEN, R. F. VON. Sept. 30, 1949 [Nov. 20, 1947], No. 25140/49. Class 5(ii) A composite lickstone for animals, especially cattle; comprises individual units of different mineral salts combined together in selected association. In Fig. 2 is shown a composite lickstone of discshaped units; units 1a may be of sodium phosphate with common salt, units 1b may incorporate calcium phosphate or carbonate, units 1c may contain vitamins, and units 1d may contain special minerals, e.g. epsom salt or a salt or oxide of iron, copper, zinc, cobalt or manganese, the units 1c and 1d being of width less than the units 1a and 1b. In Fig. 3 this lickstone is shown placed in a hollow 2 .arranged in the edge 3 of a trough 4. On being licked by the animal, the discs turn round in the hollow, which has an overlapping upper edge to prevent lifting out or falling out of the discs. The individual discs may be coloured in accordance with their compositions. Discs containing a substance unappetizing to the animal may be provided with ribs or projections which extend beyond the general surface of the cylinder formed by the association of discs.
