680,457. Gas scrubbers. WHESSOE, Ltd., DAVIDMANN, M., and TAIT, J. H. Dec. 5, 1950 (Dec. 6, 1949], No. 31269/49. Class 55 (ii). Liquid - distributing means for packed tower scrubbers &c. comprises a set of troughs 11 arranged side by side with outlets 16 through which liquid flows on to the outer surface of the walls extending below the trough floor to approach or touch the top of the packing 19 ; the bottom portion of the walls is of reduced width so that liquid which forms a continuous film along the lower edges flows on to the packing without dripping or any substantial inward motion. Instead of being chamfered as shown with a narrow flat 21, the bottom surface of the wall may have a longitudinal groove, and the wall may splay outwardly, the flat being omitted. Liquid is supplied to the troughs through pipes 10 each having a restricted inlet orifice 12 communicating with a manifold 8 and a tee outlet directing liquid towards both ends of the trough. Specification 487,946 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
