A photographic camera having a cover 3 hinged to its casing 1 is characterized in that the hinge 2 is located outside the dark chamber 4, which is bounded and rendered light-tight by a continuous rib or groove 5 which interfits with a continuous groove or rib 6 on the cover 3 when the camera is closed. An extra rib 7 may be formed on the inside of the groove 7, or a number of interfitting ribs and grooves may be provided.
