Abstract
679,252. Ground-piercing rollers. GOIT, K. E. June 11, 1951 [July 1, 1950], No. 13746/51. Class 6(i) A soil-aerating device, of the type comprising one or more wheels or rollers 100 each having ground-piercing tools pivotally mounted within its rim and extending through slots in the rim, is characterized in that the piercing tools are hollow tubes which are normally uged by springs 48 against one end of the slots. Each wheel comprises a hub 10 connected by spokes 11 to an inner rim 15 which is joined by further spokes 16 to an outer rim 12. The wheel is made in two mirror-image halves with the ground-piercing tools 32- 38 pivoted between pairs of spokes 16 in adjacent halves. Each tool, Fig. 5, comprises a tubular member sharpened at its end 40 and threaded into a sleeve 43 rotatable on a cross-pin, a slot 45 being left in the sleeve for the ejection of the cores of soil. When not required, the tools may be folded back into the wheel against the action of the springs 48, and held by spring clips 52. The wheels have inter-engaging holes 60 and studs 61, so that when several wheels are juxtaposed on a common shaft 65, Fig. 9, a drive may be transmitted from one to another. In Fig. 9, a motor 75 drives a sprocket 83 on one wheel 100 through a slackenable belt drive 77, which acts as a clutch, and a chain drive 82. The device is manually steered by handles 71. Specification 679,253 is referred to.
