Abstract

677,828. Impedance networks. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. March 31, 1950 [March 31, 1949], No. 8119/50. Class 40 (viii). An impedance network comprises two T-sections in parallel, one consisting of two equal series capacities C1 and an interposed shunt containing an inductance ¢L3, the other consisting of two equal series inductances L1, and a shunt containing a capacity 2C1, the resonant frequency of a circuit consisting of the shunt branch containing ¢ L3 in series with the capacities C1 in parallel, being equal to that of the shunt branch containing 2C1 in series with the inductances L1 in parallel. If a parameter " b," which equal 4#f c RC 1 , where f c is the frequency at which the network phase shift is 180 degrees and R is the non-reactive image impedance of the network, falls between 2 and #2, this network can be derived from a symmetrical lattice prototype without calling for the use of mutual inductance to simulate negative inductance in any arm. In further embodiments, an inductance may be connected in series with the shunt capacity, or an inductance, or capacity, may bridge the series arms. Further in order to make the image impedance more nearly a constant resistance and provide an adjustment of the insertion loss of the network, variable resistances may be bridged over the series arms and arranged in a common portion of the shunt arms.
