Abstract

A metal foil for electrical equipment [see Group XXII], includes a dielectric plastic layer comprising a reaction product of a polyfunctional isocyanate and a polyhydroxy compound. As polyfunctional isocyanates bivalent or trivalent isocyanates such as toluylenediisocyanate or triphenylmethane-triisocyanate respectively may be used. As polyhydroxy compounds preferably branched polyesters containing hydroxyl groups as are obtainable by polycondensation of di-basic acids such as adipic acid or phthalic acid with trivalent or higher alcohols may be used. The plastic layer may include fillers such as rutile, calcium titanate, strontium titanate and barium titanate as well as the corresponding carbonates. In one example a solution of 100 parts of an anhydrous polyhydroxy compound obtained by condensation from 3 mols. of adipic acid and 4 mols. of hexanetriol and 75 parts of a reaction product from 3 mols. of 2.4-toluylene-diisocyanate and 1 mol. of the said hexanetriol, is prepared in a mixture of 650 parts of ethyl acetate, chlorobenzene, toluene and methylenechloride. The metal foil is passed through the solution and heated at temperatures slowly rising from 30-180 DEG C., whereby polycondensation of the plastic takes place.
