Abstract
676,568. Fragile capsules. DEHN, S. G. (Scherer Corporation, R.P.). May 8, 1950, No. 11406/50. Class 81 (i). [Also in Group V] A dispensing container for flowable material comprises a fragile capsule filled with said flowable material and a single flexible envelope, impermeable to the contents of the capsule, enclosing said capsule and directly contacting it, the said envelope being provided with a dispersing aperture or apertures. Several forms of container are illustrated (a) in Figs. 2 and 3, a container 10 comprises an inner fragile capsule 12 of formaldehyde hardened gelatin and containing an oil solution of a dye. The capsule is surrounded by an outer spaced envelope 16 formed with a constricted apertured neck 18 defining a dispersing aperture 20. It may be formed by placing the capsule 12 inside an open ended flexible tube 16a having a constricted neck 18a defining a dispersing aperture 20a and then sealing the end 16b. (b) In Fig. 5, a globular capsule is enclosed in a spaced envelope made into two halves 30 and 32 having abutting margins 30a and 32a projecting radially to define a circumferential flange in which is formed a dispersing aperture 34. A mould for preparing the capsule is described, Figs. 7 and 8 (see Group V). (c) In Fig. 10, a capsule 52 has envelope 56 adhering thereto except over one end portion 52a of the capsule. It is formed by dipping the capsule in a cellulose gel such as ethyl cellulose and cellulose acetobutyrate. (d) In Fig. 13, a capsule 62 is enclosed in an outer envelope 66 having one end sealed off at 66a and the other end sealed off at 66b but having an opening 66c. It is formed by enclosing the capsule in a tube and sealing ends thereof with an adhesive strip of a vinyl resins and polyethylene resins. (e) Fig. 17 (not shown) similar to container of (d) but formed from sheet material especially rubber hydrochloride, polyethylene resins, acrylic resins, vinyl elastomers and cellulose derivatives e.g. cellulose acetate and ethyl celluose. (f) Fig. 22-A globular capsule 82 has an adhering envelope 86 with aperture 82a. It is formed in a suitable mould, Fig. 23 (see Group V), and the material may be microcrystalline waxes plasticized with resins such as polyisobutylene. (g) Fig. 25, a capsule 102 is provided with envelope 106 having aperture 102a and the whole is enclosed in outer spaced envelope 108 having aperture 108a, (h) Fig. 30, a capsule 132 has envelope 136 having three discharge openings 136c. The preferred material for the fragile capsule is formalized gelatin prepared according to Specification 674,890. Suitable materials for the flexible envelope are vinyl acrylic and polyethylene resins; cellulose derivatives e.g. cellulose acetate, cellulose oxybutyrate and ethyl cellulose; rubber hydrochloride; paper or fibrous material impregnated with thermosetting resins; suitable plasticisers may be added to the resins.
