Abstract

Finely-divided polychlorotrifluoroethylene is suspended in chlorinated ethers such as chlorodimethyl ethers, e.g. chloromethyl methyl ether and bis-chloromethyl ether, chlorinated diethyl ethers, e.g. beta-chloroethyl ethyl ether, beta, beta1-dichlorodiethyl ether, beta-dichlorodiethyl ether, beta-dichloroethyl beta-chlorethyl ether, and beta-trichlorethyl beta-chloroethyl ether, beta, beta1-dichlorodiisopropyl ether, chlorinated butyl ethers, chlorinated isobutyl ethers, chlorinated amyl ethers, 2,4,21,41-tetrachlorodiphenyl ether, chlorinated benzyl ethers, chlorinated tolyl ethers, chlorinated xylyl ethers, chlorinated anisole, chlorinated phenetole, and chlorinated phenyl beta-chlorethyl ether. The suspensions may be prepared by grinding the polychlorotrifluoroethylene with the chlorinated ether in a ball or pebble mill till a stable uniform suspension is formed. The suspensions may be used to coat aluminium wire by passing the wire through the suspension and fusing the polymer by baking.
