Abstract
675,890. Load-engaging appliances for hoisting; slings. MEILI, L. Feb. 15, 1950. [Aug. 6, 1949] No. 3821/50. Class 78 (iv). An appliance for use with lifting apparatus comprises a ribbed plate fitted with a suspension hook or ring whereby it may be attached to the lifting apparatus and having, at at least three points around its periphery, slots adapted to receive and hold chains whereby a load is suspended. In the arrangement illustrated, a load is supported for lifting and lowering by chains adjustably engaged in slots 6 at the periphery of a plate 1 formed with ribs 2 and webs 8 and suspended by a ring 5 connected with a central bolt 3 carrying at its lower end either a hook 4, or a ring. A groove 7 adjacent to each slot 6 supports the link 9a above the link 9b in the slot. The lower ends of the chains may carry hooks for engaging the load which may also be supported from the hook 4. The ring 5 may be replaced by a hook. The Specification describes several examples of methods of supporting loads by means of the chains, including one in which both ends of chains passing under the load are engaged in the slots 6 to form a sling.
