Abstract
675,856. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 21, 1950 [April 22, 1949], No. 10690/49. Class 40 (iii). In a projection-type television receiver, the path of the sound emanating from a loudspeaker within the receiver cabinet and the path of the light image projected from the receiver are arranged to be substantially coincident or to converge so that the sound is reflected by the viewing screen back to the viewer. In the arrangement shown, the viewing screen 7 is curved so as to be concave towards the viewer and the optical projection system 2 and/or the loud-speaker 8 are arranged to be angularly adjustable to enable the angle of convergence to be adjusted in accordance with the distance of the view-screen from the receiver so that the axes of system 2 and loud-speaker, meet at screen 7. In this embodiment, loud-speaker 8 reproduces only the high frequencies, the low frequencies being reproduced by a further loud-speaker 9 which is mounted so that the sound is diffused by a deflector 13 through an annular grille 14. Alternatively, loud-speaker 9 may be dispensed with and loud-speaker 8 employed for reproduction of both high and low frequencies. Instead of causing convergence of the sound paths and light paths the loudspeaker may be mounted closely adjacent to the optical projection system so that their axes substantially coincide.
