Abstract
674,173. Ejectors for forging-machines. G.K.N. GROUP SERVICES, Ltd. March 16, 1950 [March 19, 1949], No. 7529/49. Class 83 (iv). In a heading or like machine in which the work is inserted in a die with its inner end bearing against the end of an ejector pin while its outer end is being operated upon, adjustment of the initial or setting position of the pin to accommodate work of different lengths,.and the corresponding adjustment of the length of travel of the pin are effected by the operation of a single adjusting member acting on the setting and operating members connected by linkages to a power-driven driving member. The ejector pin 16 is normally held in its inner position relatively to a die 20 by a spring 18 which acts between the frame of the machine and a flange 17 of the pin so as to press the flange against the abutting heads 30, 36 of actuating and setting lever arms 28, 34 which in turn bear against a sleeve 22. A fixed pivot 27 carries the bent operating-lever 28, 29 and the setting lever 34, 39. To tha arm 29 of the operating lever is pivoted a link 42 carrying at its end a roll 45 and to the arm 39 of the setting lever is pivoted a link 43 which is also pivoted to an intermediate point 44 of the link 42 so that lever arms 29 and 39 and links 42 and 43 form a parallelogram. Mounted on a fixed pivot 52 is a rocker 53 with an arcuate surface 54 which is in contact with the roll 45 and is concentric with the pivot 27 when the pin is in its inner position. An arm 55 on this rocker carries a roll 57 held in contact with a cam 58 by a spring 60. In operation, the inner position of the pin 16 is adjusted by means of the screwed sleeve 22, such adjustment acting through the linkages to traverse the roller 45 along the surface 54. The ejecting movement of the pin is effected by the cam 58 which moves the rocker 53 to actuate the lever 28, 29 through the roll 45 and link 42, the amount of movement of the link 42 and hence of the pin 16 depending upon the initial position of the roll along the surface 54 as determined by the, setting of the sleeve 22 and lever 34, 39.
