Abstract

673,537. Spray carburetters. SOLEX. Nov. 25, 1948 [July 17, 1948], No. 30636/48. Class 7(iii) A control for a starting carburetter comprises a thermally responsive device 14 situated adjacent an electric heater 15 comprising either a single resistance fed by two separate circuits 24, 16, or two resistances arranged in separate circuits, the circuit 24 being closed by a manually operated switch 26 whilst circuit 16 is closect at a predetermined temperature by a thermally responsive switch 19. As shown the device 14 comprises a bimetallic strip connected to a member 7 controlling the operation of a starting carburetter 13, as described in Specification 673,542, and the device 19 is positioned at some point, such as the cylinder head or exhaust pipe, indicative of engine temperature. When starting from cold, the strip 14 holds the member 7 raised to bring the carburetter 13, fed with fuel through a passage 5 and orifices 11, 12, into operation. Closing of the switch 26, sends current via circuit 24 to the heater 15, which causes the strip 14 to gradually move the member 7 down. As the engine warms up, the switch 19 closes and finally the member 7 closes the carburetter outlet 13 to render it inoperative. When the switch 26 is broken to stop the engine, current still flows through circuit 16 to the heater 15 to hold the starting carburetter inoperative on restarting provided the engine is warm enough to keep the switch 19 closed. Resistances 23, 27. in the circuits 16, 24, may be arranged so that when the switch 19 closes, the current through the heater 15 is increased to accelerate the shutting off of the carburetter 13. In a modification, each of the circuits 16, 24, contains an electric heater situated adjacent the member 14. The Specification as open to inspection underSection 91. also describes the annlication of the device to a choke valve. This subject-matter is not included in the specification as accepted.
