Abstract

670,713. Shuttles for looms. KEAY, Ltd., T. C., WALLS, R.N., and ROBERTSON, W. M. March 22, 1950 [March 25, 1949; March 25, 1949], Nos. 8173/49 and 8174/49. Class 142(iii) A self-threading device comprises a plate 1 having a weft-receiving eye 2, a slot 3 extending tangentially from the eye to one edge of the plate and a turned - down triangular lug 4 on the edge of the plate that contains the slot and on the same side of the slot as the eye. The plate is secured to the shuttle by a bolt which passes through the body of the shuttle and engages a threaded bore 9 in a projection 7 on the underside of the plate. The face of the projection 7 is formed with radial serrations to prevent the plate rotating. The weft is tensioned by passing round the projection 7. Resilient washers may be interposed between the serrated end of the projection 7 and the shuttle body and beneath the head of the bolt securing the plate to the shuttle. In a modification, an extension 11 passes close to the apex of the lug 4.
