Abstract
670,597. Seats. HARRIS, LEBUS, Ltd., DOUGLAS, W. D., and JESSUP, A. D. March 13, 1950. [Dec. 14, 1948] No. 32359 J48. Class 52 (ii). Seats &c., particularly upholstered seats &c., are formed of units which are provided with separable hinges the elements of which, after being brought together and rotated relatively to one another through a certain angle, cannot be further rotated except in reverse direction and cannot be separated until reversely rotated. Friction or other catches are provided to lock the assembled units together. In assembling the back 2 is brought to the seat 4 so that the elements of the hinges 10 are interengaged and rotated upwardly into final position. The arms 8 are then connected to the back 2 by separable hinges 24 and brought into their final position whereupon catches 26 engage automatically or are positively engaged by manual manipulation. The hinges 10 comprise a plate 12 provided with a curved part 16 and a bent part 20 for attachment to one unit say 2 while a plate 14 having a co-operating curved part 18 is secured to the unit 4. To assemble the hinge elements the edge of the plate 14 is laid against the flange 20 while the plate 12 is horizontal. The unit is then rotated anticlockwise causing the curved parts 16, 18 to engage. Such a hinge is described in 670,596, [Group XXV].
