Abstract
669,740. Hay-loaders. WILDER, Ltd., J.Nov. 5, 1949 [Nov. 9, 1948 ; Sept. 7, 1949], Nos. 29068/48 and 23132/49. Class 6(iii) [Also in Group XXX] A loading appliance in which grass is elevated between two parallel runs of two endless belts has the under belt passing over an inverted L-shaped run, the upper arm of the L carrying the grass after elevation into the tipping or discharge position.. The hayloader of Fig. 6 comprises a chassis 1 mounted on ground wheels 2, the chassis supporting a main driving belt drum 3 grooved to receive an endless belt 4, a second endless belt 5 engaging the drum on each side of the groove and passing above the first belt. On the front of the chassis is a pick-up drum 6 with projecting tines picking up the grass as the drum revolves. From the drum 6 the grass is carried upwardly between the parallel runs of the two belts and after being elevated is carried forwardly by the under belt 4 to the tipping position, whence it falls into a truck towing the hay-loader. The drive to the beltdriving drum 3 and the pick-up drum 6 is by way of chain gearing and a lay shaft 14 from the shaft of the ground wheels 2. The drive-transmitting chain between the lay shaft and the driving shaft, may be tensioned by a vertically adjustable jockey sprocket or pulley. The pick-up drum 6 is adjustably mounted so that it can be raised to an inoperative position. Each end of the drum is rotatably mounted in a bracket on a skid 18 adapted to ride over the ground surface and maintain the drum at a constant distance from the ground during operation. The drum is in sections between which the tines 20 are mounted on rings. Fixed to each skid is a link 21 rotatably connected to the chassis, Fig. 4. A link 22 secured to each skid passes through a guide 23 on the chassis and has a pin-and-slot connection to an arm 24 extending from a control shaft 25 rocked by a handle 28 to raise or. lower the skid. The handle 28 can be held in position by a quadrant 29. An extensible draw-bar by which the loader is towed comprises a channel member 30 upon which an extension member 31 is slidable, being held in position by a catch or pawl 34 locked by a screwed clamp 34a, Fig. 7. Mounted on the chassis is a superstructure 37 supported by uprights 38 and having a horizontal extension 39 over which is a cowl 40. The upper belt 5 may consist of a plurality of endless strips 5a, pronged guiding bars carried by the chassis and superstructure projecting between the strips at intervals along the belt. The belt 5 may be driven by the pressure of the grass carried by the belt 4. Mounted on the skid frame is a deflector plate 41, which is slotted to form strips passing between the prongs on the pick-up drum 6.
