[Class 78 (i)] A harvesting or agricultural elevator or like loading appliance for aiding in the loading and transport of baled hay or the like combines a wheeled frame or chassis having means for attaching the same laterally to and in side-byside relation with a vehicle such as a lorry or trailer, an adjustable elevator carried upon the frame or chassis and comprising an inclined support or ramp for an endless power-driven conveying means arranged with its lower end adjacent the ground level, such that loads can be picked up by the lower forward end of the conveying means, elevated and unloaded laterally into the vehicle. The elevator ramp 2 is supported on a framework, having rear wheels 9 which can be adjustably positioned and a forward skid 10. The framework is secured to lateral bracket members which are adjustably connected to the tractor. The upper part of the elevator 14 is hinged to the lower part and can be raised or lowered by a winch. The conveyer comprises cross-bars having spaced projections and slats at intervals connected to side chains running on rails. The conveyer is driven by a motor 32 mounted on a bed-plate hinged at 34 to the main frame and movable by a lever 35. The engine pulley 36 is connected to a pulley 37 by a belt, which pulley is connected with a polygonal sprocket 40 which engages the driving chain which is guided by rollers 42 into engagement with the sprocket. By swinging the motor unit about its hinge the belt slips and the drive can be controlled or stopped. The material is deflected on to the conveyer by an arm 45 bracketed to the frame, and a vertical arm 46 at that end carries pivoted curved arms 48 which act as a guard to prevent downward slipping movement of the load. The conveyer may have a hopper 55 for root crops and may be provided with a shoot with a forward scoop, the shoot having a grill for the tines of the conveyer. The conveyer has side guards 30 and discharge to the vehicle can be by hand or arranged automatically by a deflector. Alternatively a hopper can be fitted to the frame at the discharge end, the hopper discharging into a pivoted shoot which delivers to the vehicle.
