Abstract
669,410. Electrostatic precipitation. STURTEVANT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., WAGNER, H. W., and GUEILIKMAN, M. March 16, 1950 [March 2, 1949], No. 5700/49. Class 39 (i). In an electrostatic precipitator for removing dust and like impurities from dirty gas, of the kind comprising a discharge electrode and a receiver electrode between which the gas passes, the receiver electrode comprising a plurality of vertical tubes connected together in a group and the discharge electrode coniprising a plurality of vertical wires within the tubes, a plurality of horizontal rods have their inner ends connected to the receiver electrode and pass to the outside of the container through glands, their outer ends being connected to a common base element, and an electric vibrator is mounted on the base element to vibrate the receiver electrode. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the receiving electrodes are constituted by earthed vertical tubes 1 of hexagonal section arranged in nine groups on the' plates 6 which are supported by beams 5, in the container 3, the lower ends of the tubes being held together by strengthening bars 7. Each of the groups are welded to a bar 8, the outer groups having rods 9a attached to the bars 8 and passing through glands 10 in the container 3 to the respective bars 11, and the inner groups having rods 9b which pass through glands 10 to the left-hand bar 11, Fig. 2. Each of the bar structures 11 has an electrical vibrator 12 mounted on its outer face and. is supported by flexible suspension links 28, attached to brackets on the wall of the container 3, so that vibrations are not transmitted to the container. The discharge electrodes are constituted by wires 2 which pass coaxially through the tubes 1 and are suspended in six groups from the grids 13a, 13b, the wires being maintained in tension by weights 32. The grids 13a, 13b are at a high potential and are attached to girders 15 slung by means of rods 16 from insulators 17 which are enclosed in a separate compartment 19 of the container, bars 20 provided with vertical rods 21 being mounted on each grid 13a, 13b. Each rod 21 extends through a tubular insulator 22 and is connected by an insulator 23 to a rod 24, the rods 24 being welded to the bar structures 25, which are provided with an electrical vibrator 26 at the centre and the bars 25 being supported by antivibration mountings 30. A number of vanes 31 attached to the rods 21 prevent overheating of the insulators 23. Specifications 593,356 and 593,398 are referred to.
