Abstract

667,011. Demagnetizing apparatus. KOLB, O. K. Feb. 3, 1950, No. 2893/50. Class 35. In an apparatus for demagnetizing reels of magnetic recording tape without unwinding, the reel 3 is rotated on a turntable 2 whilst an A.C. excited electromagnet 4 is moved towards and away from the centre-line of the turntable. The turntable is geared to a manually rotatable screw 9 which imparts the linear motion to a wheeled carriage 7 carrying the electromagnet, the current being supplied by leads 21. It is stated that the electromagnet may traverse the reel from centre to edge or between opposite edges, and the turntable may have linear motion and the magnet may be rotatable.
