Abstract
666,922. Impact pulverizers. SAFETY CAR HEATING & LIGHTING CO., Inc. July 16, 1949. [Aug. 13, 1948] No. 18786. Class 59. In an impact pulverizer for individual solid particles which are delivered on to a rotor having radial vanes which direct the material tangentially from the periphery of the rotor to discrete targets arranged annularly round the rotor, the targets are positioned in circumferentiallyspaced groups each forming a multi-target member, the individual targets of which form apertures between them extending in the tangential direction of flow of rotor. Each multi-target member 56 comprises three elongated targets 60, 62, 64 arranged with apertures 61, 62 bepart being fixed to a shaft 18 rotated by a motor 14, the centre of gravity of the lower part 38 coinciding with the centre of a bearing 17 for the shaft 18. The two parts 38, 40 of the rotor 36 are separated by radial vanes 44 between which particles supplied by a shoot 24 on the upper surface of the lower part 38 of the rotor 36 pass before being thrown in a direction tangential to the periphery of the rotor 36 against the target faces of multi-target members 56 arranged in a circle round the rotor. Each multi-target member 56 comprises three elongated targets 60, 62, 64 arranged with apertures 61, 62 between them in a holder which is supported in position in a hole 57 in the top wall of the casing 2 of the apparatus. The centre target 62 of each multi-target member 56 is tapered so that the apertures 61, 63 between the targets are tapered. Each multitarget member 56 is disposed so that the apertures 61, 63 lie on a tangent from the periphery of the rotor 36 and sufficiently closely to one another that no tangent from the rotor 36 passes between adjacent members 56. Pulverized material passes downwardly into the hopper 6. The supply shoot 24 is provided with a lip 30, which extends across the inlet opening of the apparatus, and a lip 29, the two lips 29, 30 together assisting the distributicn of particles over the upper surface of the lower part 38 of the rotor 36.
