Abstract
666,515. Sheet-delivery apparatus. BATTERSBY, J. E., and MASSON, SCOTT & CO., Ltd. April 28, 1950 [May 11, 1949], No. 12588/49. Class 100 (i). Apparatus for stacking sheets of paper board, cardboard, pulp board and like material delivered by a conveyer includes a sheet support comprising rotatable winding means on which can be coiled elongated flexible means such as cables, tapes or the like, anchored at one end, and means for displacing the winding means horizontally beneath the delivered sheets, so that the sheets can be stacked on the support during the removal of previously stacked sheets, the flexible means remaining stationary relative to the sheets resting on it during displacement of the winding means. Sheets are passed from a conveyor comprising travelling tapes 9 and controlling tapes 10 to laying-apparatus comprising a table 14 and an endless band 15 passing over a roller 16 and a jockey roller 17 supported pivotally from a member 18. The bands 15 and tapes 9 are driven by a chain 20. The laying-apparatus is carried on a frame 6 vertically slidable on posts 4 in a hollow column 1. The frame 6 is raised by means of a chain 36 anchored at 39 and operated by a hydraulic cylinder 41, so that as the stack rises, each sheet is delivered to the top. The delivery end of the conveyor 9, 10 is pivoted to the frame 6 by links 8. The sheets are arrested by a plate 21 extending between heads 22 supported by rods 23, 24 from the frame 6. The inner face of the stack is controlled by a plate 25 joggled by means of an eccentric 29. Lateral guide plates, which can also be joggled, may also be provided. In order to allow the stack to be removed without stopping the machine, a temporary support for the sheets is provided. A rotatable winding drum 42 is mounted in heads 44 slidable on the rods 23, 24, and is formed with helical grooves, a plurality of wire cables or like flexible members 45 being anchored to the drum at one end, being coilable in the grooves, and are anchored at the other end to the frame 6 at 46. The drum is rotatable by an endless chain 49 which can be driven from a motor. A pinion on the drum shaft engages a rack 54 formed on one of the rods 24, so that as the drum rotates it also moves horizontally. The cables 45 can thus be moved into position to support the sheets without relative movement between the cables and sheets, the stack below the cables being then removed. With the drum returned to its right-hand position, within the frame 6, while the latter is in its lowest position, the sheets are allowed to rest on the floor to start a new stack. A plurality of bars 57 are carried on brackets 56 slidable on the rods 24, and on the drum is unwound, links 58 passing through apertures in the bars 57 cause the bars to take up spaced positions beneath the cables to provide intermediate support therefor.
