Abstract

665,024. Fibrous compositions; vulcanizing rubber compositions. RUBBER STICHTING. June 9, 1949 [Aug. 6, 1948 ; Jan. 18, 1949], Nos. 15373/49, 15374/49. Class 70 Compositions comprising rubber and fibrous vegetable material in a quantity at least equal to that of the rubber are vulcanized at room temperature or at a temperature not greater than 50‹C by adding an ultra-accelerator and an amine of low volatility and having a dissociation constant greater than 10-<SP>5</SP> such as di normal butylamine and triethanolamine. The ultra accelerators may be dithiocarbamates such as butylzimate, piperidine pentamethylene dithiocarbonate and the xanthogenates. The final mixture may be obtained by mixing together two separate compositions which together contain all the necessary ingredients but which separately are unable to vulcanize under the circumstances prevailing during compounding. In an example two compositions each containing rubber, zinc oxide, ozocerite, kaolin, and wood flour were prepared, and to the one was added iron oxide, accelerator and butylamine and to the other sulphur. The compositions were mixed when required and then moulded, and were vulcanized on standing two-four weeks. In a second example a mixture consisting of rubber, zinc oxide, kaolin, butylzimate, sulphur, pigment, straw, paraffin wax and triethanolamine was similarly treated. Other waxes such as beeswax and carnauba wax may be added.
