Abstract
664,085. Centrifugal compressors. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. April 25,1949 [April 26, 1948], No. 10933/49. Class 110(i) A compressor, which may be a supercharger for an aircraft engine, is regulated by means of movable vanes made of rubber or a rubber compostiion and having a streamlined section. Sector-shaped vanes 6, Fig. 1, are pivoted about radial axes in the annular air inlet 4 of a compressor. The vanes are actuated in unison by means of a rotatable ring 14 having castellations 13 which engage ball-joint members 12 carried by levers 11 attached to vane pivots 8. The ring 14, which may be turned from the pilot's cockpit by means of a cable or control-rod, is journalled on a stationary ring 15, as by rollers 16. The vane pivots 7, 8 are either integral with or attached to a metal frame 18, Fig. 3, which is coated with a rubber moulding 17. When the vanes are in the closed position, their leading and trailing edges 20, 21 overlap and are resiliently deformed to provide an airtight closure. The arcuate edges of the vanes have resilient tips which deflect to bear tightly against co-operating spherical surfaces of the casing.
