Abstract
662,124. Magnetic recording apparatus. KOLB, O. K. Sept. 10, 1949. No. 23450/49. Class 40 (ii). In apparatus for the magnetic recording and reproducing of sound signals, one or more magnetic heads are provided inside a cylindrical shaped part of the magnetic coating of the sound carrier which passes round a flywheel roller. A film 1 carrying a magnetic layer is driven by a sprocket 4, and itself drives a roller 5 fixed on a spindle 7 carrying a flywheel 8. Roller 5 has an annular recess 9 to allow a magnetic head 10 to be placed adjacent the inner cylindrical surface of the film. The magnetic head is carried on an arm 12 mounted in a box 13 wherein controls A ... E permit all possible positional adjustments of the magnetic head relative to the film 1. In a modification, the edge of the film remote from the flywheel is supported by a separate guide roller on an independent bearing thus giving more space for placing the magnetic head. In a further modification, the separate roller is omitted, the edge of the film above the magnetic head being supported by its inherent stiffness,
