Abstract
662,066. Machinery guards. POWELL, G. F. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. March 2, 1950 [March 2, 1949], No. 5746/49. Class 80 (iv). A guard 1 hinged at 2 to a machine frame 8 is held closed by a screw clamp co-operating with a micro-switch 10 in the circuit of the driving motor of the machine so that there is a time lag between the breaking of the motor circuit and the complete release of the clamp. The invention is applied to a continuous rod cigarette machine. The clamp comprises a rod 4 mounted in a bracket 3 attached to the guard 1, the rod being urged upwards by a spring 12 and having at its lower end a screw 6 rotatably arranged in a bush 7 secured to the frame 8. Below the screw 6 the rod 4 extends as a stub 9 contacting the micro-switch 10. A spring-loaded pawl 15 coacts with the buttress thread of the screw 6 so that the clamp may be pressed home when Closing the guard but must be unscrewed' when opening. Initial rotation of the knob 5 of the clamp opens the switch 10, and the thread of the screw is such that by the time unscrewing is completed the machine parts have come to rest. It is stated that the screw itself may comprise one of the contacts of a switch replacing the microswitch 10.
