Abstract
In the oxidation of olefins, especially propylene and isobutylene, with oxygen-containing gases in the presence of elementary selenium and copper-containing contact material, as described in Specifications 625,330, 648,386, and 658,179, to obtain unsaturated aldehydes, the deposit containing selenium and selenium oxide is heated above 240 DEG , preferably at 240-400 DEG C., to recover elementary selenium. The heating may be effected in the presence of a restricted amount of air, which is driven off by the carbon oxides evolved, or in the presence of inert gases such as nitrogen.ALSO:Selenium is recovered from the deposit containing the element and its oxide which is condensed from the products obtained by oxidizing olefines with oxygen-containing gases in the presence of selenium and copper-containing contact material, by heating above 240 DEG C. preferably at 240-400 DEG C. Heating may be affected in the presence of a restricted amount of air or in an inert gas such as nitrogen.
