A machine for intermittently delivering one or more rows of cylindrical articles, such as cartridges, of greater length than width, aligned longitudinally in each row, comprises a hopper for receiving a bulk-supply having an elongated opening of width to pass the articles, means to prevent blocking of the opening by articles not aligned therewith, an inclined gravity-shoot below the opening having longitudinal grooves wide enough to accommodate only one line of the articles and deeper than the thickness of the articles, the spacing of alternate and successive grooves being respectively greater and less than the length of the articles, directing-pegs on the ridges between the grooves, an apron to catch and divert any article riding on those positioned in the grooves, and reciprocating means at the lower ends of the grooves for lifting the aligned articles over a stopping-surface. As shown, the articles are fed into the top ot a hopper 2 having a sloping front wall 3 and rear wall 4 with aligned slots 6, 7 in which pivoted slots 8, 9 are reciprocated by lever mechanism 24, 24<1>, 27, 27<1> actuated by cams 29, 29<1> on a driven shaft 38. The articles are delivered on to a gravity-shoot 11 having longitudinal grooves 12 formed by alternating ridge-pieces 14, 15. The ridges 14 are fitted with partition strips 17 along which spaced pins 13 are provided in staggered rows, for the purpose of aligning the articles. The ridges 15 are fitted with wedges 18 which act as ramps to carry any non-aligned article (19, Fig. 1) on to an apron 16 before such articles reach the delivery-end of the chute. The articles are lifted over a stop-bar 21 at the bottom of the shoot by a slide-bar 22 which is raised, against the action of a spring 34, by a rotary cam 36. An intermittently driven conveyer belt (not shown) may be fitted in front of the stop-bar 21. Specifications 377,774 and 632,105 are referred to.
