Abstract

660,919. Conduits. PANEL FITTINGS CO., Ltd. April 11, 1950 [April 7, 1949; Feb. 27, 1950], Nos. 9484/49 and 4950/50. Class 36. Lengths of ducting for electric conductors are joined together by a channel-member which, together with a backing plate, is telescoped into adjacent ends of two duct lengths, separating screws being passed through tapped holes in the channel member to engage with the surface of the backing-plate so as to separate these two parts and obtain frictional engagement between the channel member and the duct lengths. The ducts are preferably of rectangular crosssection and comprise base 5, side walls 3, 4 and flanges 1, 2. The channel member comprises side walls 6, 7 and a base 8 having the same area as backing plate 9, which is placed under the base 8 so that tapped holes 10, 11 therein register with tapped holes 16, 17 in the plate 9. Additional tapped holes 13, 14 are provided in the base 8. The channel member and backing plate are positioned in the ends of adjacent ducts and screws are inserted in the holes. These through-holes 13, 14 separate the plate 9 from the base 8, forming a tight frictional engagement between the channel member and the duct lengths. The screws passing through holes 10, 16 and 11, 17 press into the base 5 of the ducts and make electrical contact between the parts. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 5), four contact screws 24, 25 and four separating screws 28, 29 are provided, two of each lying on either side of the butt joint 26 between adjacent duct lengths. The channel members may be of L, T or other shape to join duct lengths which do not lie in a straight line. The open side of the duct may be closed by a cover member carrying spring-clips which engage under the flanges 1, 2.
