Abstract
659,685. Measuring the amplitude of pulse. DECCA RECORD CO., Ltd., TANNER, S. R., and WIERSMA, R. A. Aug. 29, 1949, No. 22423. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL (c)] In a radar apparatus test device (see Group XL (c)), the amplitude of received pulse signals of radio or intermediate frequency having a substantially constant pulse repetition rate is measured and indicated on a meter 24. The pulses, see Fig. 2A, fed in at A are rectified by diode 17 whose load comprises a small condenser 18, which charges to almost peak value for each pulse, and a leak resistor 19. The signal at B thus developed, see Fig. 2B, is applied to the control grid of valve 20 to produce positive voltage peaks in the anode circuit at C as shown at 2C. These positive peaks cause diode 22 to conduct for a short period, flattening the peaks as shown, and placing a negative charge on the plate of condenser 21 connected to the diode. Resistor 23 and meter 24 provide a leakage path for the negative charge and the time constant is made much greater than the period between successive pulses so that the waveform at the point D is as shown at 2D and the meter deflection is proportional to the shaded area. This area is approximately proportional to the peak value of the signal pulses and the meter may be calibrated for such values.
