657,267. Peak voltage measurements. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Jan. 31, 1949, No. 2677. [Class 37] A circuit arrangement for the measurement of the peak amplitude of recurrent pulses of short duration comprises a capacitor adapted to be charged through a rectifier by the pulses to be measured, the rectifier being arranged in the output of a high gain feedback amplifier to the input of which the pulses are applied, the feedback connection being so made that the output impedance of the amplifier (i.e. the effective charging impedance of the capacitor) is less than it would be without feedback, and that the feedback path is operative both when the rectifier is conductive and when it is non- conductive. A high gain amplifier A has the pulse waveform E applied to its input via resistor R3. The output, which may be developed across the load resistance of a cathode follower, is fed through a diode D2 to a storage capacitor C which has connected across it a leak resistor R2 represented by the voltage measuring circuit. A feedback loop comprising a capacitor C2 and resistor R4 feeds back to the input of the amplifier a proportion of the output voltage, the time constant C2, R4 being much greater than the pulse width. The feedback loop is connected to the junction of a resistor R5 and the cathode of a second diode D1, the fed-back voltage being proportional to the peak voltage on the capacitor C when the diode D2 is conducting and being maintained through the resistor R5 at other times.
