Abstract

659,378. Conveyers. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Oct. 12, 1949, No. 26231. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1948. [Class 78 (i)] Annular packages of textile strand c, Fig. 5, are removed from centrifugal wringing buckets 133, supported on a continuously rotating annular conveyer 132, by a device which lowers a horizontally reciprocating gripper 124 into the moving package, withdraws said package and then pushes it off the gripper on to an arm 141 of a storage device 120. A shaft 24, continuously rotated by the conveyer driving motor 122, carries cams 25, 52 and 64, Figs. 1 and 9, respectively engaging followers 27, 55 and 69 and thus causing timed vertical reciprocation of racks 31, 72 and timed horizontal arcuate reciprocation of the complete device about shaft 131 at the same velocity in one direction, as the annulus 132, this latter movement being due to the follower 55 being secured to a fixed bar 48. Reciprocation of rack 72 rotates a double pinion 73, 74, relative to shaft 24 and through a double pinion 79, 80, and a further rack 66 an amplified reciprocatory movement of the gripper 124, pivoted to said rack 66, is effected. Reciprocation of rack 31 rotates a pinion 35 keyed to a shaft 36 together with toothed sectors 39 which mesh with a pair of racks 41, 42 and so effect substantially horizontal reciprocation of a pusher 46. After the gripper 124 has been inserted into the package and retracted therewith, due to the horizontal movement of the whole device, together with the reciprocation of rack 66, it is tipped as shown in Fig. 1 by the engagement of a fixed cam 118 with a roller 116 secured to the gripper, and subsequent reciprocation of the pusher 46 transfers the package on to an arm 141. The arms 141 are rotated step by step in synchronism with the remainder of the apparatus by the motor 122 in such a manner that when each arm has been filled the succeeding empty arm is presented to the discharge device. The gripping device comprises an inflatable bag retained in a cut-away cup and arranged to protrude beyond the cup surface when inflated with compressed air admitted by the opening of a valve 94 by an abutment 99 carried by the rack 66, a similar abutment 111 also carried by said rack serves to open an exhaust valve 95 prior to the discharge of the gripper by the pusher 46. In a further modification (not shown), the conveyer, extracting device and arms 141 are each associated with a separate driving motor. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which the horizontal reciprocation of the device may be rectilinear and arranged to unload a rectilinear conveyer. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
