[Class 19] A method of making polishing wheels in which a bundle of wool, fibre, metal or like threads 3 held loosely about its middle by a ring 8 is pressed on one half 4 of a divided hub with the aid of a mandrel 9 which carries at its thick end said halfhub 4, the mandrel passing axially through the bundle of threads until the threads on one side of the ring are pressed between the ring and the flange of half-hub 4, whereupon the threads on the other side of the ring are turned back over the ring, the mandrel is withdrawn and the other half 7 of the hub is placed in position and the two halves of the hub secured together, is characterized in that in constructing thread bundles for the polishing wheels, each bundle being held in a ring, a hank of threads 3 of any desired length is introduced into a guide sleeve 11, which is fitted with a filling funnel 13 and on which the rings 8 to be used in holding the threads are carried, the hank of thread being pulled through the guide sleeve 11 and, at uniform intervals, read on a scale 14 arranged at one end of the guide sleeve, one holder ring after another is pushed from the guide sleeve on to the hank, after which the hank provided with holding rings at uniform distances apart is cut through between adjacent holding rings to form equally long threaded bundles. Several thread bundles may be arranged beside each other on one common hub. The hub described is made of wood, the two halves being glued together.
