Oct. 16, 1948, No. 26959, [Class 6(iii)] A mower for attachment to a tractor comprises a frame 4 hinged for vertical movement, a cutter bar 1 hinged to the frame for vertical hinging movement. means for securing the frame to the tractor forward of its rear wheels with the cutter bar extending laterally, a device 16, 17,18, for driving the cutter blades from the powertake-off shaft 19, and a cam lever 26 and cam follower device 30 so associated with a chain 28 connected to the power lift of the tractor that raising of the chain just lifts the bar 1 and, upon continued opera tion, the frame 4. In the construction shown the cutter bar 1 is hinged at 2 to a bracket 3 which is secured to the struts 5, 6 of the frame 4. The struts pivot about a tubular casing 7 housing a shaft 8 whose rear end can be driven as shown by the power take-off shaft 19 of the tractor and whose front end carries a crank disc driving the connecting rod 13. A plate 23 which can be secured by a U-bolt 25 to the rear axle housing of the tractor pivotally supports a bar 22 which can be raised and lowered by a link 20 whose upper end can be connected to power lift cranks on the tractor. The chain 28 connects the bar with a pivoted cam plate 26, Fig. 6, which bears against a roller 29 on a follower 30. The latter rests on the hinge pin 2 and is connected to the cutter bar at 31. By this arrangement raising of the link 20 raises the cutter bar about the hinge connection 2 until a stop on the plate 26 encounters an abutment surface on the bracket 3 ; continued lifting of the link will then cause the frame 4 to pivot about the casing 7. A hand lever 41 associated with a rod 42, a crank arm 40 and a sleeve 39, is movable over a quadrant to vary the tilt of the cutter bar. The Provisional Specification also describes a construction in which the cutter is raised and lowered by the power lift links of the tractor through the medium of longitudinally extending pivoted bars one connected to the links, the other to the cutter, and the two being interconnected by a pin and slot connection.
