Abstract

652,874. Track apparatus for actuating signals on trains and controlling trains. SOC. TECHNIQUE POUR L'INDUSTRIE NOUVELLE SOC. ANON. STIN. Sept. 3, 1947, No. 24272. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1942. [Class 105] Cab signalling or train control is effected by means of two or more track magnets 1 (one of which is a permanent magnet) vertically arranged so as to present only one pole, the flux of each of which directly and briefly actuates, on the train, an armature 5 of a receiver relay which armature is returned to its normal unoperated position by an auxiliary magnet 2, the flux of which acts on a part so disposed as to be unaffected by the track flux, such receiver relay or relays acting on an electromechanical device controlled by at least two current circuits. Fig. 3a shows track permanent and electromagnets 1, 2 acting simultaneously on two train-carried receiver relays 3. The receiver relay armatures E1, E2, Fig. 3b, control a relay A fed at a mid-point and having a front contact Al in the circuit to a brake magnet B. One half winding of the relay A receives current over armature E2 in its unoperated position and this is sufficient to close the front contact A1. When passing the signalling point the armature E2 is operated by the track permanent magnet 1 to open the circuit to the particular half winding but if the other armature E1 is operated by the track electromagnet 2 it energizes the other half winding so that the front contact Al remains closed. Should armature E2 fail to respond then the two half windings would be fed at the mid-point and so neutralize each other whereupon the relay A would open its front contact A1 to give a braking. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement shown in Figs. 4a (Cancelled), and 4b (Cancelled), wherein track permanent and electromagnets 1, 2 act successively on a single train-carried receiver relay 3. The first operation of the armature E drops a stick relay A which opens its contact A3 to de-energize the brake magnet C a back contact C1 of which prepares a circtut to a relay B which is energized on the immediately following operation of armature E and at its contact B1 prepares a pick-up circuit for the relay A, this thereafter being energized and held by its stick contact Al when the armature E resumes its unoperated position. The brake magnet is thus only briefly deenergized at a clear signal. At a danger signal the electromagnet is not energized so that the relay A remains dropped and a sustained braking ensues. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
