Abstract
651,476. Lift trucks. LEWIS-SHEPARD CO. Dec. 8, 1947, No. 32292. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1946. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXXI, XXXIV and XXXVII] Relates to an electrically-propelled hand truck (see Group XXXI), in which two forms of load-lifting devices are described. In the form shown in Fig. 1, load-bearing members 51 are connected by links 52, 53 to the truck frame, the link 52 being pivoted on the axle 3 of rear wheels 2 to which is also pivoted hydraulic jacks 54, the piston rods 55 of which are connected to a member 56 connecting the members 51. In the form shown in Fig. 3, load-bearing members 58 are supported on rollers 59, 60 and a triangular lever 61 is pivoted at one end to the member 58 and carries at the other end a ground-engaging roller 75 so that when a rod 64 pivoted to the lever 61 is pulled to the left in Fig. 3, the roller 75 causes the members 58 to be raised. The rod 64 is connected at its other end to a triangular lever 65 pivoted on the truck frame. The lever 65 is connected by a link 74 to another triangular lever 72 also pivoted to the truck frame. The lever 72 is actuated by a vertical hydraulic jack 69 secured at one end to the truck frame, its piston rod 71 operating the lever 72 and hence raising or lowering the members 58. Pressurized liquid is supplied to the jacks 54, Fig. 1, or the jack 69, Fig. 3, by an hydraulic pump mounted on the truck frame and driven by an electric motor actuated through a relay controlled by a push-button switch in a switch box 44 mounted on the end of a steering tiller 41. Another push-button switch controls an electric circuit to a solenoid which actuates a relief valve to permit the load supporting means to descend.
