Abstract

651,267. Photo-electric weft stop-motion for circular looms. SAINT FRERES. Jan. 2, 1948, No. 144. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1947. '[Classes 142(i) and 142(iii)] [Also in Group XL(b)] A lamp carried by a shuttle is lit upon failure of the weft and actuates a photoelectric, cell which stops the loom. The shuttle-race 2 is connected to a source of high frequency current by a wire 7. A contact 8 carried by the shuttle 1, which is insulated from the shuttle-race, conducts the current to a contact stud 9. The weft 15 passes over a feeler 10 which, upon weft failure, is rocked by centrifugal force until studs 5 and 9 make contact. A neon lamp 3 is lit and actuates a photo-electric cell situated above the loom. In a modification a battery is carried in the shuttle and replaces the wire 7 and contact 8; in this construction a filament lamp is fitted. A number of photo-electric cells may be fitted above the loom.
