[Class 104 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] In a conveyer in the form of an overhead railway for supplying paper rolls to the magazines of printing presses, each roll is supported in a sling suspended from a counter-weighted hook pivoted on a bogie running on a continuous overhead track, and at the delivery stations additional overhead tracks are provided, each having a portion extending adjacent and parallel to the continuous track but inclined to the horizontal, whereby a hook on a bogie thereon will be raised as the bogie is moved along, so that the load of a roll carried by a bogie on the continuous track may be transferred thereto, the hook on the bogie on the continuous track then being withdrawn from the sling by its counterweight. As shown, the rolls of paper 13 are rolled from a platform 1, Figs. 1, 2, onto trucks beneath the adjacent part of the closed overhead track 2, and as the trucks move down an incline the load of each roll is .taken by a sling 12, Fig. 9, suspended from a hook 10 on an arm 8 pivoted on a bogie 3 and counterweighted at 9; the bogies 3 connected by chains 5 passing over sprockets 6, Figs. 1, 2, are propelled along the track 2 past the presses 18 either by electric motors mounted on some of the bogies or by a drive to one or more of the sprockets 6; the portions 16 of the subsidiary tracks each have an inclined part 24, Fig. 7, so that the hook 23 of the bogie thereon may be engaged in the circular or triangular eye 11 of a sling 12 carried by a bogie on the main track and the load gradually transferred, Fig. 6, as the main bogie propels the subsidiary bogie up the incline: an arm 29 may extend from the subsidiary bogie, or according to the Provisional Specification from the hook 10 on the main bogie, to transmit the drive; as soon as the load is transferred the hook 10 is withdrawn by its counterweight 9, Fig. 9. The subsidiary tracks may each serve one machine, Fig. 1, or may be provided with switches 19, Fig. 2, so that each serves two machines; their delivery ends may be inclined downwards to facilitate unloading onto the floor or onto trucks thereon. Trolleys 25, Figs. 1, 2 and 9, interspersed with the trolleys 3 on the main track 2 are provided with core hoppers comprising a frame-work 26 having a hinged flap 27 held closed by a removable pin 28 ; the track 2 may be arranged to lower these core hoppers at a discharge point on the platform 1.
