Abstract

650,489. Magnetic recording apparatus. RADIO GRAMOPHONE DEVELOPMENT CO., Ltd., DUFFELL, H. F., and GRIFFITHS, R. V. L. April 22, 1948, No. 11113. [Class 40 (ii)] In an apparatus for the magnetic recording of sound, means are provided for lifting the tape 10 out of contact with any or all of the heads 1-3 not in use, comprising arms 21-24 operated by levers 31-34 and cams 41-44, respectively, the latter being mounted on a shaft 26 coupled to a control shaft 17 and knob 15 by pinions 20 and 25. The ends 11-14 of the arms 21-24, respectively, are provided with recesses which serve to guide the tape 10 along the centres of the magnetic cores of the heads 1-3. The shaft 26 is coupled to a switch 16 for controlling the circuits of the heads 1-3, and a ball clicker is provided to retain the shaft 26 in one of five positions A-E, Fig. 4 (not shown). In the " recording " position " A " the arm 24 holds the tape 10 out of contact with the reproducing head 3, so that contact is made only with the erazing head 1 and recording head 2. In the other extreme position, "E," for reproducing, the arms 21 and 22 hold the tape 10 away from the heads 1 and 2, and contact is made only with head 3. In the centre position "C," the tape 10 is held away from all the heads 1-3, and the switch 16 operates the rewinding motor. Positions " B " and " D " are " off positions, in which no circuits are completed and tape 10 is held away from all of the heads 1-3.
