Abstract

650,212. Ironing-machines; rollers. TULLIS, Ltd., D. & J. Dec. 15, 1948, No. 32419. [Classes 42 (ii) and 138 (ii)] Resilient padding for a roller 1 of an ironing machine comprises a plurality of spring-carrying strips 2, each wound around the roller 1 and cover strips 7 wound around the spring-carrying strips 2, one of which is attached to the roller by the same screw 4 which attaches the respective spring-carrying strip to the roller and a wire cloth 13 lapped upon the strip assembly. Springs 3, Fig. 2, are wound in pairs and threaded on to the strips 2, the ends of which overlap and are fixed to the surface of the roller 1 by the screw 4 which engages a tapped hole 6 in the roller 1. Each screw 4 also attaches one end of the strip 7 to the roller. Each strip 7 covers the springs attached to a strip 2 and the ends of each strip 7 overlap and are held together by a clip 10. The free end 9 of every second or third strip 7 is bent to form a hook 11, Fig. 3, which engages a plate 12 attached to the wire cloth 13. The remaining ends 9 of the cover strips are bent back against the clip 10. The strips 7 are wider than the strips 2 and are located by notches 14 which engage between the springs.
