Abstract

648,920. Super - regenerative receivers. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1948, No. 6292. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1947. [Class 40 (v)] A super-regenerative receiver of the type in which the received signal is converted in the super-regenerator to a different frequency at which super-regenerative amplification takes place, is arranged to be self-quenching. The new frequency may be an intermediate frequency produced by heterodyning, as described in Specification 638,204 or may be produced by frequency multiplication. The received signal is fed to the grid of valve 110 together with the output from the grid of a beat oscillator valve 180. Valve 110 operates as a logarithmic mode super-regenerative amplifier having its oscillatory frequency controlled by circuit 113, 114, 115 tuned to the intermediate frequency. The H.T. is applied through resistors 167 and 166 to the control grid with the result that oscillation builds up until a cathode condenser 170 charges sufficiently to bias the grid to cut-off to produce quenching. The cathode circuit also includes a network comprising a capacitor 176 and a resistor 173 and the grid circuit a network comprising components 118, 167, 168 and 169. These networks maintain the mean cathode and grid currents constant and so stabilize the operation of the receiver as described in Specifications 646,331 and 654,887 respectively. Frequency - modulated signals may be detected by slightly detuning the circuit 113-115.
