Abstract
648,726. Coin-freed amusement apparatus. SHELLEY, C. April 20, 1948, No. 10924. [Class 27] In apparatus wherein a legendbearing drum 35 is rotated after insertion of a coin into any one of a series of slots 15 and a prize token is delivered if the drum stops in a position corresponding to the slot, the prize token mechanism is constructed as a detachable unit comprising a series of storage tubes 43 fitted between upper and lower plates 44, 45 and from which tokens are delivered by slides 27, the upper ends of the tubes registering with token insertion slots 50 in the cover 51 of the apparatus and the slots 50 being normally closed by a cover plate 52 secured in position by spring loops 53 insertable into the slots. In the particular apparatus shown, tokens discharged bv the slides 27 pass to a laterally inclined chute 47 down which they roll to an outlet at the side of the apparatus. The coin slots 15 are formed by shallow channels in the face of a plate 61 closed by spring-pressed flaps 62, 63 to enable jammed coins to be released. The inserted coin is received in a pocket in a drum 17 and couples it to a rocking sector 18 connected through a resilient spring linkage 70 to an operating handle 19. Downward movement of the handle turns the drum spindle and through a cam 20 rocks a spring-loaded lever 21 which, through a pawl 36, sets the legend drum 35 spinning. The legend drum can be braked by depressing a push-button to engage a spring blade 42, Fig. 1, with the end of its spindle 38. On the spindle 38 are a series of notched discs 29, one for each coin slot and token tube, whilst the token delivery slides each have a spring-loaded actuating lever 26. If the drum stops with a notch 28 in one of the discs 29 opposite a lug 30 on one of the levers 26, that lever actuates its slide 27 to deliver a token but this only occurs if the coin has been inserted in the corresponding slot 15 and has rocked a retaining lever 31 clear of the slide 27 concerned. Casings. The mechanism is mounted on a base plate 73, Fig. 14, enclosed by a cover secured in position by catches 74 engaged over pins 75 on the cover. The catches 74 are mounted on spindles 76 and are rocked to secure the cover when the cash-box 82 is slid into position and passes over turnedup ends 77 of the spindles.
