[Class 112] Book signatures, sewing.-In a machine in which the sewn signatures 7 are supported between parallel inwardly-facing knife-edged guides 1 which engage the side edges of the signatures close to their sewn back edge, the signatures being moved along these guides by pusher mechanism, the support for each guide is constituted by a slide or carriage movable relatively to the machine frame towards or away from the other guide. In the arrangement shown, each guide 1 is secured to a carriage 4 embracing a rack-bar 5 fixed in the machine frame, each carriage having a pinion engaging the rack with a knob 11 for turning it to move the carriage along the rack and a screw 12 to lock it in adjusted position. Any other means of supporting and clamping the guides on the rack may be used, and both carriages may be made simultaneously adjustable by a single control such as a screw with opposite threads engaging parts on the two carriages. Each bar may 'be supported by two or more carriages connected for simultaneous adjustment. In place of carriages on a fixed rack, the guides may be secured to members slidably adjustable in the machine frame. Specification 621,920 is referred to.
