Abstract

645,589. Exhaust silencers. CULLUM, D. J. W. Oct. 14, 1948, No. 26755. [Class 7(ii)] A silencer for a jet engine under test, comprises a sound absorbing tube 4 having therein a pocket-like baffle 6, facing the entrance 3, and forming, with an extension 8 an annular exit. The baffle, which is perforated and fixed to the perforated lining of the tube 4, may be conical, pyramidal or semi-spherical. A perforated metal core 10, which, like the space between the tube 4 and its lining 5, is filled with rock-wool or other sound deadening material, terminates within the baffle.
