Abstract

644,890. Moulding housing units. EVANS, B. Nov. 20, 1947, No. 30793. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group X] The walls and ceiling of a room unit are moulded as a single integral unit in a mould comprising outer mould sections 32 hinged at their lower ends to a frame 30 and an inner mould core 10 having a slight upward taper. After setting of the material the core 10 is lowered and the outer sections 32 swung outwardly to permit removal of the moulded room. The core 10 is supported by a central pillar 14 and is lowered by means of a boss 15, spindle 16, gear-wheels 18, 19 and shaft 20, as shown in Fig. 1. A space is left between the upper ends of the sections 32 and an aperture forming template 37 disposed at the centre of the top 12 of the core 10, and through this space is introduced the moulding material, the upper surface of the material at this space being finished by hand. A reinforcement cage, in which are located door and window openings &c. is positioned between the core 10 and sections 32, and during pouring an electric hammer is applied to the mould, small holes being provided in the window frames to allow egress of air from the mould space. A low voltage alternating current is applied to the moulding composition during setting. The surface of the mould core may be coated with a thin layer of lead or zinc. Room units so formed are assembled on a prepared site to form a building (see Group X).
