Abstract

A liquid bactericide is prepared by mixing a small quantity of 8-hydroxy-quinoline with a solution of urea peroxide in a polyhydric alcohol and allowing the solution to stand until a change in colour is observed. The 8-hydroxy-quinoline may be used in the form of its salts, e.g., the sulphate. Specified polyhydric alcohols are glycerine, propylene glycols, ethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, trimethylene glycol and tetramethylene glycol. Mixtures of glycerine with other polyhydric alcohols may also be used. The liquid bactericide is preferably non-aqueous. The preparation promotes the healing of wounds. Specification 632,084 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the employment of other viscous solvents such as phthalic acid esters. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
