Abstract

643,077. Road-vehicle spring-suspensions. BROWN TRACTORS, Ltd., D. Aug. 13, 1946. No. 23941. [Class 108(.ii)] In a wheel suspension device for a selfpropelled vehicle comprising an associated torsion bar 2, the hub unit 60 supporting the wheel axis is mouflted by two radius arms 17, 18 anchored to the chassis at points 19, 20 located on a line set at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and the connection with the torsion bar is by means of a separate lever system and not the radius arms. The anchorage points 19. 20 comprise ball joints, and the outer ends of both arms 17, 18 are secured by ball joints to members 61, Fig. 4, which are welded to vertical sockets integral with the hub member 60. The outer end of a torsion bar lever arm 11 is connected to the hub 60 by a link 65, each end of which is formed with a part spherical surface. The vehicle frame is of the kind described in Specification 643,071, [Group XXXI], and comprises two main diagonally-crossed members A and transverse members T joining their extremities. The torsion bars associated with the front and/ or rear pair of wheels are coupled at their ends which are remote from the wheels by an anchorage member which is resiliently secured to the frame as described in Specification 643,076. The other end of each torsion bar is mounted in a resilient bush carried by an annulus 51 which is secured by lugs 53 between the bifurcated ends 49, 50 of the respective frame member A as is also described in Specification 643,076.
