Abstract

642,340. Making refrigerator casings. COLDAIR, Ltd., and SAUNDERS, N. F. T. Feb. 13, 1948, No. 4319. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Flanging.-Sheets for casings of refrigerators 2 are provided on the front edge with a U- shaped pocket at right angles to the plane of the sheet and with a flanged rear edge in a single press. The sheet 4 is inserted between dies 8, 9 and is flanged at the rear edge and then reversed and bent zig-zag between a bottom die 12 and the die 9 which is spring supported. The sheet is then transferred to the back of the press and dies 15, 16 and a spring supported die 18 co-operate to flatten the U-shaped edge and to bend it at right angles to the plane of the sheet. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the dies 8, 9 are reversed to avoid the necessity of turning the sheet lengthwise.
