Abstract

641,508. Disc brakes. INDIA RUBBER, GUTTA PERCHA & TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., TARRIS, F. J., and WEBB, D. Feb. 4, 1948, No. 3320. [Class 103 (i)] In a fluid-pressure operated disc brake, particularly for aircraft, a plurality of friction pads 5 and expansible elements 7 to engage them with one face of the disc or ring 1 are contained in individual housings 4 widely spaced circumferentially, so that the disc 1 is freely open to air circulation between the housings. Friction pads 22 are also positioned against adjustable plugs 23 behind the disc 1 opposite to each pad 5. The disc 1 may be in the form of a container having a filler of heat-absorbing material, such as that described in Specification 638,573, and the arrangement of pads 5 and operating means therefor is similar to that described in Specification 638,561. Reference also is made to the disc brake described in Specification 364,868.
